Peace Through War

DAY 6 OF 6

The Battle’s Not Yet Won

There have been countless battles and wars since Biblical times, and the Bible reminds us that wars will continue until Christ returns.

Matthew 24:6-7 says, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.”

Prophecies found in the Bible speak to these future events:

  • The Battle of Gog and Magog: Described primarily in Ezekiel 38-39, this battle is predicted as an invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations from the north and east, often identified by scholars as modern-day Russia, Iran (Persia), Turkey, and others. This invasion is said to target a regathered and peaceful Israel, but God is prophesied to supernaturally intervene and destroy the invading forces.
  • The Battle of Armageddon: This is the final, climactic battle described in the Book of Revelation 16, which will involve all the nations of the earth gathering their armies in the plain of Har Megiddo in northern Israel. These armies, led by the Antichrist, will march on Jerusalem to wage war against God. This battle culminates with the physical, visible return of Jesus Christ to Earth, who will defeat the forces of evil and establish His 1,000-year reign (Millennial Kingdom).
  • Satan's Final Rebellion: At the end of Christ's thousand-year reign, Satan will be released from his prison and will once again deceive nations, gathering them for a final, short-lived rebellion against God's rule. This uprising will be quickly and definitively crushed by God, leading to Satan's permanent judgment.

Thankfully, as Christians, our hope is not in winning battles or wars through our own volition and efforts. The cross and salvation are our ultimate battle success. At Calvary, Jesus fought the ultimate cosmic battle—defeating sin, death, and Satan—so His people can walk in everlasting freedom.

  • Deuteronomy 20:4 – “For the LORD your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
  • Romans 8:31 – “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Living for the Truth Today

Whether you’re facing external opposition like Nehemiah or Noah, an impossible obstacle like Moses and the deep Red Sea, a massive army like Jehoshaphat with little more than musicians and tambourine players, or a giant on the battlefield like David, Scripture stacks example upon example: the Lord loves to fight for His people. Stand firm, sound your trumpet of faith, turn to prayer, and watch Him work in miraculous ways.

About this Plan

Peace Through War

While war is never optimal, the Bible shows it is sometimes necessary in this fallen world. Examining battles like Jericho, Jehoshaphat’s victory through praise, and David vs. Goliath, we see that success is achieved not through human might, but through faith, obedience, and reliance on God's divine intervention. We have confidence that the Lord fights for His people. Scripture confirms that wars will continue until Jesus return; however, Christians already possess the ultimate victory through Christ's defeat of sin and death on the cross, urging us to face our personal struggles with faith and courage as we seek everlasting peace.
