Back to the Basics 365Sample

In Matthew 4:1-11, we read about the temptation of Jesus Christ after He had fasted for forty days. The devil tempted Jesus on three separate occasions, but each time, Jesus responded by quoting Old Testament Scriptures. His replies always begin with "It is written," followed by words from God. This highlights the importance of knowing the Bible.
Whenever you are feeling tempted to sin, remember a Scripture that relates to your particular struggle. If necessary, quote it aloud. The devil hates God's Word because he knows that it has God's power behind it. So the next time you are tempted, pull out the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17).
