One of the joys of being a Christian is sharing the Gospel with others and witnessing them surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. But that is only half of the story. Jesus instructed His followers to go and teach others to observe all that He commanded. Discipleship is such a vital part of the Christian journey because of this command from Christ. We are called to teach and disciple those who come to Christ, equipping them with the truths we have learned from studying the scriptures.

The apostle Paul often visited the churches he had established earlier, checking on their spiritual growth. He didn’t simply share the Gospel and leave it at that; he followed through until the work was complete. Similarly, we should do the same—committing to ongoing discipleship and spiritual nurturing of new Christians.
