Obtaining Mercy

DAY 2 OF 7

God Defines Himself by Mercy

When God introduces Himself to Moses in Exodus 34:6, He doesn’t begin with power or judgment. He begins with mercy. “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious…” This is God’s self-description. It’s not man’s opinion—it’s divine revelation. Mercy is not just one of God’s attributes; it’s central to His identity.

Many people have a distorted view of God. They see Him as harsh, distant, or punitive—often shaped by painful experiences or religious misrepresentations. But God has already told us who He is. He is merciful. He is gracious. He is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Don’t let movies, culture, or trauma redefine God for you. Let His Word shape your theology.

Mercy is the first thing God wants us to know about Him. It’s the lens through which we must interpret His actions, His judgments, and His dealings with humanity. Even when life feels unfair, God’s mercy is present. It’s mercy that keeps us from being consumed. It’s mercy that sustains us through trials. And it is mercy that invites us into relationship.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for defining Yourself by mercy. Help me to see You clearly—not through the fog of pain or religion, but through the light of Your Word. Let Your mercy be the foundation of my faith and the anchor of my hope.

About this Plan

Obtaining Mercy

This 7-day plan explores the depth of God’s mercy—what it is, how to receive it, and why it matters. Rooted in Hebrews 4:16, each day reveals mercy not just as forgiveness, but as divine help, healing, and strength. Whether you're broken, confused, or simply hungry for more of God, this journey will guide you to the throne of grace where mercy flows freely.
