The Way of Immanuel: How to Share Jesus This Christmas

DAY 6 OF 7

Jesus is the Promise Keeper

In Matthew 17, Jesus promised His followers that he would be betrayed and killed, but would come back to life on the third day.

His disciples saw the first part happen: Jesus was betrayed and publicly killed. But how could he come back to life? His body was gone. The darkness of that moment felt heavy.

Imagine how this would have felt to Jesus’ closest friends. How would they know what was true? Did they remember His words about rising on the third day?

Like the disciples, we can face moments of confusion and doubt; but when everything feels lost and hope seems gone, God’s promises still remain true. Three days after His death, Jesus’ disciples saw His promises fulfilled when He rose from the grave.

Christmas reminds us that God is faithful. What once seemed impossible — light breaking into darkness, life triumphing over death — has already happened in Jesus. The same Jesus who entered this world, who faced suffering and death, conquered death. His victory assures us that, unlike the tomb, His promises are never empty.

God wants to meet you in your struggle. This season, take heart in the truth that God keeps His word. The darkness of today is not the end of the story. The Light has come, shining for all who trust Him. Even when we can’t see the way forward, we can hold onto the certainty that Jesus is alive, faithful, and working all things for good.

This Christmas, remember: the empty tomb is not an empty promise. Jesus’ resurrection proves He keeps His word. Jesus, the Light, broke through the darkness of the grave. The Light defeated sin and death. Praise God—the Light has come!

Take a moment to reflect on God’s promises

  • Do you believe God’s promises unconditionally? If yes, do you live like they are true?
  • Which promises of God do you struggle to trust?
  • Where in your life, community, or country do you need Jesus’ light to shine?

Now, let’s pray

"Dear God, I praise You for coming to earth and fulfilling Your promises. Thank You for being born in a manger to save us. Forgive me for forgetting Your promises and despairing when things go wrong. Help me see Your light in dark times. Show me how I can encourage others and share Your good news today. Amen."
