Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 35 OF 365

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God (Deuteronomy 4:24 NKJV).

Did you know that one of God’s names is Jealous?

Moses, in his writings, emphasizes this unique aspect of God's nature, stating, “For you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” (Exodus 34:14 NKJV). God desires His people to be loyal to Him and not to false gods. In Deuteronomy 6, we read, “For the LORD your God is a jealous God among you, lest the anger of the LORD your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 6:15 NKJV). Our Father calls us to Himself, forbidding the embrace of self-made gods.

As Christians, we have all, at some point, been guilty of putting things before God, such as our money or relationships with mere humans. Yet, the LORD is abundantly merciful, forgiving us when we confess our idols. The psalmist captures this truth, stating, “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him” (Psalm 103:11 NKJV). Recognizing that the Lord is jealous for us, let’s return that zeal for Him. Today, let us chase Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength!

Employment Point: Pursue your walk with the Lord, knowing that His name is Jealous.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
