Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 126 OF 365

He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed (Proverbs 13:20 NKJV).

From whom do you seek advice?

We all seek advice, be it from individuals, books, or even the media. In today’s reading, we see the impact of taking bad advice! When Rehoboam became king after Solomon's death, he consulted the wise elders who had advised his father, Solomon (1 Kings 12:6). Sadly, he disregarded their wisdom and took the horrible advice of his peers, which led to a division of the land.

Rehoboam governs the southern kingdom, and Jeroboam the northern kingdom. Jeroboam sought counsel, too. He was also given awful advice, and in a political move, ended up making golden calves for worship, steering the people away from God (1 Kings 12:28). Unlike Rehoboam and Jeroboam, we should seek godly counsel from mature believers. So, let me ask you, who are your sources of counsel? Do they align with God's wisdom? Let's choose to surround ourselves with mature Christians to help guide our decisions.

Employment Point: Seek counsel from godly people and heed their advice to walk in wisdom.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
