Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 129 OF 365

He restores my soul (Psalm 23:3 NKJV).

Three Biblical principles for overcoming depression

The first one is simple yet profound: allow God to care for you (1 Kings 19:1–8). When Elijah was at his lowest, desiring death, God nourished him physically. Are you allowing God to care for you in your times of despair? Remember to take time for rest, refreshment, and nourishment.

Secondly, seek God's presence (1 Kings 19:9–14). Elijah encountered God's presence in a profound way. Are you spending time in God's Word, letting it fill you? God reveals His goodness to us, especially when we are feeling down.

Lastly, serve God for refreshment (1 Kings 19:15–21). God redirected Elijah's focus to serving others. Are you finding purpose in serving others, even in your lowest moments? Serving helps guard our hearts from selfishness.

So, as you navigate through moments of depression, remember these points. Allow God to care for you, seek His presence, and find purpose in serving others.

Employment Point: Apply these employment points to overcome depression.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
