DAY 17 OF 30

Day 17 Psalm 119:121–128 Your Statutes Are Right

Do you know the good feeling of being right? In Hebrew, the letter Ayin means "eye" or "to see," but it also carries the weight of spiritual perception, meaning seeing beyond the surface into God’s truth. In this section of Psalm 119, the psalmist longs for “open eyes” to behold the wonders of God’s law, recognizing that real understanding isn’t simply about intellect but about spiritual sight given by God.

Physical eyes allow us to navigate the world, but spiritual eyes help us discern what is just, right, and true. Without this God-given vision, our judgments are clouded, and our steps stumble. That’s why the psalmist doesn’t rely on his own perspective; he pleads with God to give discernment, which is the ability to sift through competing voices, see clearly, and choose rightly.

Spiritual sight begins with this posture: an openness that admits, “Lord, I don’t see clearly without You.” Humility makes space for God’s wisdom to shape our vision. Maybe it’s in waiting for His timing, extending forgiveness, or choosing honesty when shortcuts seem easier. Whatever it looks like, we walk with open eyes fixed on His Word.

Faith comes alive when Scripture isn’t just read but applied. Think of it like medicine; it only heals when it’s taken. God’s Word corrects, resets, and realigns us with His justice. With open eyes, we begin to recognize moments in our daily lives where His truth can be lived out, in how we speak, how we treat others, and how we choose integrity over compromise.

Like a lens in focus, discernment grows clearer as we practice obedience. The psalmist models this: he doesn’t just want to know God’s decrees; he wants to embody them. Injustice surrounds him, but he clings to God’s statutes as his guide. That is the beauty of this letter: seeing God’s Word not just as words on a page but as a lens through which we view the world and make decisions that honor Him.

The psalmist’s cry reminds us that without God’s instruction, our vision falters. But with His Word, our eyes adjust. We begin to see not only what is true, but Who is faithful.

Question: Where is God asking you to trust His justice today?

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see life through the lens of Your eternal Word and give me discernment to do right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
