30 Days With the PsalmsSample

Living a life that honors God
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14 ESV).
Most people don't like being restricted by rules. However, David claims: “The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart” (Psalm 19:8 ESV).
Why is David so fond of God’s law? He has learned that it reflects God’s wisdom and offers better advice than any human could ever give us. Keeping the Lord’s commandments prevents us from severe mistakes. It is the revelation and instruction of our perfectly wise, utterly loving heavenly Father. Therefore, “in keeping them there is great reward” (Psalm 19:11 ESV).
But David does not only keep God’s commandments because they are a great help. It is his desire to love and honor God. He wants even his words and thoughts to be pleasing to Him.
David knows that he does not always live up to this ideal. He does not manage to be acceptable in God’s sight all the time. Therefore, he asks God to help him fight against sin, and to transform his heart.
Do you echo these words of David? Do you also accept God’s commandment as the guiding principle for your life and do you want to honor Him in every word or thought?
