30 Days With the PsalmsSample

Putting your trust in God
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7 ESV).
Everybody has something they put their trust in. For some, this may be their money or possessions, for others their family or their physical strength – depending on the situation, we can think of many different things to rely upon. This psalm is written in a setting of rivalry and war, and thus mentions chariots and horses as possible things to put one’s trust in.
But this psalm offers a better alternative to all of these. There is something–or rather, Someone–who can help in every possible situation. It is “the LORD our God”. He is our ultimate source of help, be it directly or by means of other people and things.
Acknowledging that only God is really trustworthy helps us to keep the right perspective on life and to honor Him for His continuous help and guidance. This perspective lets us see beyond the visible, earthly things. It shows us Who is really in control, and Who deserves all praise and honor.
Whom or what do you put your trust in?
