Ignite: 5 Days to Awaken the Fire of God Within YouSample

Build the Fire
Verse:
“But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire…” —Acts 28:3 (NKJV)
Devotional:
Shipwrecked. Cold. Soaked by the rain. That’s where Paul was when he chose to build a fire—not after the storm passed, but right in the middle of it. He didn’t wait for perfect conditions. He responded to chaos by creating a place for warmth, light, and gathering. In the same way, fire in our spiritual lives symbolizes the presence of God. When we choose to worship, pray, and press in during the storm, we invite that presence.
You don’t need perfect conditions to seek God—you need surrender. The Holy Spirit is the fire. He warms, refines, and illuminates. Gather the wood today: a Scripture, a song, a prayer. Build the fire.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me stop waiting for the storm to pass. Teach me to seek You now. Let Your presence burn in me even in the coldest seasons.
Reflection Questions:
1. What storm are you currently in that tempts you to wait instead of worship?
2. What can you offer today to begin building a fire of God’s presence?
3. How has the Holy Spirit shown up for you in stormy seasons before?
