DAY 2 OF 15

"Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." - John 5:8, NIV

At first glance, this may read like a simple sentence from Jesus’ mouth. But when we look closer, we see it as a simple sentence with a major impact. For the man He was speaking to, this was more than a suggestion—it was a literal command. After years of being paralyzed and left with no hope, Jesus healed this man right on the spot. Just like that, after decades of immobility, this guy could move again. Jesus’ command changed everything for him. For us too, this sentence still has implications today. No, it’s not a literal command to us, but it is a call to move toward healing. When we encounter Jesus, our lives are changed. What once kept us paralyzed and beaten down no longer has the same power.

When we let Jesus enter into our lives and impact even the most difficult, darkest parts of it, we find ourselves with a new strength. A fresh ability to stand up and walk. To move forward, not forgetting our past, but carrying it with us so that we and others who encounter us can know we’ve been healed. This is the power of Jesus at work in our lives. What has Jesus done for you? This week, walk forward knowing you’ve been changed. And then, take a step to share a little about that with someone else.

About this Plan

Written in Red

Many Bibles highlight Jesus’ words in red. In the same way that we skim the newspaper to hit the headlines or train our eyes to instinctively find the highlighted passages in books, the red letters are there to help us see what’s most important on the page: the heart of Jesus’ words and teachings. We’ll look at just that—the red letters that make Jesus’ words pop off the page and come to life in our hearts as we pause, listen, and consider what He has to say.
