You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. - Galatians 5:13
Part of being a Christian means operating with free will. That’s simply a part of being human! But as followers of Jesus, it’s an important part of our faith. Because it means we aren’t following Jesus because we’re obligated to—we’re following Jesus because we choose to. We want to. We’ve used our freedom to make that important call for our lives. And that means we can use that same freedom every single day to demonstrate that with our lives. As Paul reminded us, that freedom is a gift. We can either use that gift for self-serving purposes, or we can use that gift in service to others. And the best way to show our love for God to others is by using our freedom to serve them in His name.
So, challenge yourself to do just that this week. Look at your calendar. Where do you have free time? How can you find creative ways to serve others with the free time you have this week? This could be as small as using your extra five minutes to say a prayer for someone in need or as big as giving up a free weekend to serve the community.

About this Plan

Many Bibles highlight Jesus’ words in red. In the same way that we skim the newspaper to hit the headlines or train our eyes to instinctively find the highlighted passages in books, the red letters are there to help us see what’s most important on the page: the heart of Jesus’ words and teachings. We’ll look at just that—the red letters that make Jesus’ words pop off the page and come to life in our hearts as we pause, listen, and consider what He has to say.
