Day 30: Alpha and Omega – Beginning and End
Devotional:
In the final book of the Bible, as God pulls back the curtain on eternity, He declares something magnificent about Himself: “I am the Alpha and the Omega.” These are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, representing far more than the start and end of a written language. They reveal the eternal nature of God, that He is both the origin and the conclusion of all things.
Why the Alpha and Omega
To say that God is the Alpha means He is the beginning. All things originate from Him. Before there was time, space, or substance, there was God. He spoke the world into existence, ordered creation, breathed life into humanity, and set history in motion. Every story, every heartbeat, every moment finds its genesis in Him.
To say that God is the Omega means He is the end. History is not spiraling out of control. It is moving toward a destination, God’s appointed purpose. He holds the conclusion of every event, the final word over every circumstance, and the eternal reign over every kingdom. He is not only the Author but also the Finisher (Hebrews 12:2).
This truth gives incredible peace in uncertain times. We may not understand every chapter, but we can trust the One who wrote the story. Life is not random. God is not absent. He is both the start and the destination, and everything in between is under His sovereign care.
Jesus Begins and Ends it All
Jesus also applies this name to Himself (Revelation 22:13), affirming that He is entirely God and fully eternal. In Him, we see the One who was present at creation, entered time through the incarnation, and will one day return to complete all things. His reign is from everlasting to everlasting.
For the believer, this means our lives are secure. The same God who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6). He knew you before you were born and has already prepared a place for you in eternity. He is faithful at the beginning, steadfast in the middle, and victorious at the end.
Living Under the Alpha and Omega
Are you in a season that feels unfinished, chaotic, or uncertain? Remember that God sees the whole picture. He is not surprised by your present or unsure of your future. He is the Alpha and the Omega, and He walks with you through every page of your life’s story.
Let this name renew your trust. You don’t have to fear what’s ahead or regret what’s behind. God is in it all. And He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Prayer:
Alpha and Omega, you are the beginning and the end. You hold time, history, and my life in your hands. Help me to trust you not just for where I’ve been, but for where I’m going. Give me faith in the middle and hope for what’s to come. Let my life reflect your eternal purposes, and may I find peace in knowing that you will finish what you began. It is in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
Reflection Questions:
- How does knowing God is the Alpha and Omega give you peace in uncertain seasons?
- Where in your life do you need to trust that God is writing a bigger story?
- What would it look like to live today with the end in mind, anchored in the hope of God’s eternal plan?
