Names of God

DAY 29 OF 30

Day 29: Jesus (Yeshua) – The Lord Saves

Devotional:

The name "Jesus" is one of the most recognized names in the world, yet it's not how it was originally pronounced, which would sound more like Joshua. It is deeply personal and profoundly powerful. In Hebrew, the name is Yeshua, which means "The Lord saves." This name isn’t just a name given by tradition or culture; it was given by God Himself, through the angel, to declare the mission and identity of His Son.

From His conception, Jesus was marked with a purpose: to save His people from their sins. His name is His mission. Every time we say "Jesus," we proclaim the rescuing power of God. We declare that salvation is not something we earn, but something He has accomplished.

Yeshua in Jewish History

Yeshua is rooted in the Old Testament, Joshua, who led the people into the Promised Land. But Jesus leads us into an even greater promise: eternal life, a restored relationship with God, and freedom from sin and death. He fulfills centuries of prophecy, the embodiment of God’s faithfulness, and the open door to redemption.

In calling Him Jesus, we acknowledge our need. We admit we cannot save ourselves. We recognize that sin has broken us, and that only God’s intervention can restore us. But we also receive hope because He came to save us, not condemn us. To lift us, not cast us down. To give us life, and life abundantly.

Yeshua, the Name Above All Names

The name Jesus carries healing. It carries authority. It carries the weight of heaven and the humility of the cross. Demons tremble at His name. Sins are forgiven in His name. The church gathers and prays in His name. No other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

But His name is not just a title; it is a relationship. To know Jesus is to experience the heart of God. Walking with Him is, in truth, grace and power. And to follow Him is to surrender our lives to the One who gave His life for us.

Yeshua, the Lord Saves You

Have you called on the name of Jesus? Have you trusted in what His name declares? Whether you are burdened by guilt, drowning in sorrow, or simply longing for purpose, His name is for you. Jesus saves. Not just once, but daily. He continues to rescue, to forgive, to transform.

Let the name of Jesus be the first on your lips in the morning and the last on your heart at night. Whisper it in your weariness. Shout it in your joy. Trust it in your trials. Because when you call on the name of the Lord, you will be saved (Romans 10:13).

Prayer:

Jesus, Yeshua, thank you for saving me. Thank you for your name: power, healing, and hope. Help me never take lightly what it cost you to rescue me. Teach me to walk in the fullness of your salvation and to share your name boldly with others. Be glorified in my life as my Savior and my Lord. It is in your powerful name and authority under which I pray, amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does the name "Jesus" mean to you personally?
  2. How has Jesus saved or rescued you in a specific area of your life?
  3. Who in your life needs to hear the saving message behind the name of Jesus?
