RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16Sample

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

DAY 25 OF 31

Peace in the Middle of the Shaking

Today’s readings speak into moments when the world feels unstable—when nations rage, kingdoms fall, and the future looks uncertain. In Nahum, God speaks to a people under threat, declaring that evil will not have the final word: “Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace!” (Nahum 1:15 ESV). Even in the midst of judgment, God is working toward peace.

In Mark 13, Jesus prepares His disciples for troubling times—wars, persecution, the shaking of everything they thought was secure. But His words are not meant to stir fear; they’re a call to alertness, hope, and enduring trust. He reminds us: the world may tremble, but God’s kingdom does not.

Before you read, take a moment to pause. Set aside distraction. Breathe deeply. Let your heart grow still.

Then say this prayer aloud:

Prayer of Illumination
Lord, calm the noise around me and within me.
Give me eyes to see Your truth, even when the world feels unsteady.
Open my ears to hear Your Word.
Make my heart ready to receive what You are saying.
Speak, Lord—I am listening. Amen.

About this Plan

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

This 16th installment of our Reading with the People of God plan invites you into the voices of the Minor Prophets—Hosea through Nahum—calling God’s people to return with sincerity and trust. Paired with the Gospel of Mark, we’ll hear Christ’s invitation to repentance and renewed faith. Each day includes readings from Psalms, the Old Testament, and the New Testament, with a brief devotional primer. May these readings draw you nearer to the Lord, awaken your heart to His mercy, and echo His faithful call: “Return to Me.”
