Beyond the Brokenness

I read one sentence recently that made me stop and reflect that we often focus on our suffering instead of our flourishing:

“Redemption is what we ought to be celebrating, not constantly reminding ourselves of the crucifixion.” – Bob Woodson

We celebrate redemption in life so we can experience the full joy of our faith.

How do we experience that same joy at work?

Despite what the media tells us, there is no “new normal.” There is God’s idea of normal; everything else is broken and unnatural. That can make the challenges you face at work feel overwhelming.

If we never move beyond what’s broken, we’ll never experience what’s possible. We must work with the confident faith that our activities help God redeem the world and remember that he empowers us as partners in redemption.

There is no redemption without the resurrection.

If we only focus on what’s broken (the crucifixion), we’ll never experience what’s possible (redemption) because of what is accomplished (the resurrection).

The truth of the resurrection will never change; our roles and the world we live in will always present new challenges.

Don’t give up. Your work matters, and you are an irreplaceable member of the body of Christ!

On the days your work feels meaningless and you feel unimportant, remember: Because Christ died for you and rose from the dead, you have the power to celebrate the joy of your faith in the work God called you to do!

Father, thank you for the cross and Jesus’ suffering. I rejoice in the resurrection and the power of the cross over sin and death. Thank you for redeeming me and giving me the freedom and opportunity to experience the full joy of faith in every moment of my life. Amen.
