Work for the Good
No matter what type of work you are doing, your vocation has significance and meaning.
When Babylon took Israel into exile, God spoke through Jeremiah:
“This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all those who were taken captive from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses, and live in them. Plant gardens, and eat what they produce. Get married, and have sons and daughters. Find wives for your sons, and let your daughters get married so that they can have sons and daughters. Grow in number there; don’t decrease. Work for the good of the city where I’ve taken you as captives, and pray to the Lord for that city. When it prospers, you will also prosper.” – Jeremiah 29:5 GW
Venture capitalist Sean Ammirati says, “It’s easy to overlook the significance of the work you are doing, especially when we don’t have a lens to fully appreciate its future impact.”
We are all part of God’s bigger plan to restore the world and to reconcile people to him.
Remember to pray and work for the good, peace, and prosperity of your city, region, state, and country so God can keep his promise of prosperity to us.
We accomplish the good works that God planned for us when we work for the good of our cities and the people whom he loves.
Ask yourself:
How does the work I do now impact the future of my family and community?
For reflection:
Lord, I pray for the prosperity of the business where I work and the community in which I live. Show me how I can work for the good of the city, and give me the confidence to take the initiative where I see needs that I can meet. I know I may not see the results or impact of my work, but as long as you get the glory, that’s what matters. Amen.
