CollideSample

Have you ever tried a restaurant, watched a movie, or read a book and thought, ‘That was so amazing!’ I have to tell everyone I know about it. An experience that is so good you don’t want to keep it to yourself? Because it’s that good, you want others to know. In this passage from the Beatitudes, Jesus is doing extended teaching to the crowds gathered to listen. In that teaching, He talks about being salt and light in the world. And when you think about what salt does and what light does, you realize there’s a much deeper meaning here.
It’s about adding value and goodness to the world. It’s attractive, and people are drawn to it. Salt brings out flavor. Light illuminates things. Both point out the best parts—the things worth highlighting. That is our role! We can be salt and light in the world, drawing attention to all the good things of God. We can be salt and light in sharing the message of Jesus, but being salt and light is about so much more than just evangelizing. It’s about drawing attention to all the good because all goodness and all truth are ultimately from God.
This week, consider what it might look like for you to be more of a salt and light in the world. How can you highlight God’s goodness to the world around you?

About this Plan

Change often feels like a collision. Getting jolted out of the rut of predictability doesn’t always feel good, but it does have the potential to lead to something positive. Scripture is full of examples of people who collided with God and were never the same because of it. That didn’t mean it was always easy, but it did mean they were forever changed as a result. What would it take to put yourself in a position to collide with God?
