CollideSample

There must be a million movies, books, and TV shows that center on the classic underdog story. They are focused on someone who is not expected to succeed, or win, or make the team. Then, against all odds, they go on to prove the world wrong. They make the winning shot, they close the deal, they land the relationship, and everyone lives happily ever after. If only real life worked that way! All of us have probably been an underdog in some form or fashion before. We’ve likely stayed underdogs when things didn’t work out like they do in the movies. We hoped things would go differently, but they didn’t. That’s what makes this passage from the Psalms so impactful.
This passage doesn’t suggest that everything will work out the way we want it to simply because we have faith or pray in a certain way. This passage reminds us not to be overtaken by our fears and not to feel shame simply because we have trusted in God. In other words, we may never have a guarantee of how things will turn out when we step out and try hard. But that may not be the point! The point may be that, in the process, we let go of our fear and have the confidence of knowing we did what we felt we were meant to do.
This week, work on committing this verse to memory. As you do, come back to it when you need the reminder that, in God, you have all you need to follow His plans for your life.

About this Plan

Change often feels like a collision. Getting jolted out of the rut of predictability doesn’t always feel good, but it does have the potential to lead to something positive. Scripture is full of examples of people who collided with God and were never the same because of it. That didn’t mean it was always easy, but it did mean they were forever changed as a result. What would it take to put yourself in a position to collide with God?
