Do Not Be Anxious About AnythingSample

Take Your Thoughts Captive
Scripture:
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
Reflection:
When you swim in one direction for long enough, you create a current. That current begins to carry you, even when you stop swimming. It’s the same with our thoughts. Whatever we focus on consistently becomes the mental current that pulls our emotions, decisions, and even our future in that direction. The good news is: you can change it.
Like in the water, you can plant your feet, turn around, and push against the flow. At first, it feels hard. It takes effort and intention. But the more you choose better, life-giving thoughts (thoughts rooted in truth, peace, and hope), the more the current shifts. And soon, it starts to carry you forward, in the right direction.
God invites us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2), not just for the sake of discipline, but because He knows that our thoughts shape our lives. You don’t have to stay stuck in a current of fear or negativity. With His help, you can shift the flow and let it carry you with grace through even the hardest moments.
Journaling Prompt:
What kind of “current” have your thoughts been creating lately? Are they pulling you toward peace, purpose, and hope — or toward fear, stress, or negativity? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you one thought or truth from God’s Word you want to start swimming toward today.
Prayer:
Lord, help me recognise anxious thoughts and replace them with Your truth. Amen.
Practical Tip:
Create a gratitude list and see if you can add one thing to it every morning when you wake up. At the end of the year, you should have 365 things to be grateful for, and you have trained your brain to see the positive things in your life.
