Heart for the House Sample

"The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one." - Psalm 14:3

Do you know someone who takes a long time getting around to saying exactly what they want to say? Maybe it’s you? Even if it comes from a good place, I’m sure we all appreciate someone who gives an honest answer and speaks plainly. David is crystal clear in his description of the predicament of sin in Psalm 14. Humankind, at first created beautiful, has been corrupted by sin. Even when someone tries to be ‘good’, their effort is polluted by sin’s consequences. The plain reality is that no person has ever ‘done enough good’ to make them holy in the eyes of God. We are all in need of salvation! No exceptions.

David’s Psalm is rephrased later by Paul in the book of Romans. The message is clear: we all need God’s gracious salvation. And what a gift it is. Let’s not become too comfortable or complacent with God’s wonderful forgiveness. Let’s do a daily heart check:

Lord, is there any sin in me? I want to seek you first.

Prayer:

Thank You Jesus for Your radical victory over sin at the cross. Help me to be grateful everyday for this amazing gift. Lord, would You look inside my heart and see if there is any sin in me. Any path of pain I’m walking on. Please forgive me and thank You for Your invitation, to seek You and follow You all the days of my life. Amen.
