Hearing God When It Seems ImpossibleSample

It's hard to hear God when you've already decided what you want Him to say. Many people struggle to hear His voice, not because He isn’t speaking, but because they only want to hear a certain answer. It’s hard to receive direction when your heart is set on your own way.

Think about the rich young ruler in the Bible (Mark 10:17-22). He approached Jesus looking for guidance, but when Jesus told him to sell everything and follow Him, he walked away sad. Why? Because he didn’t actually want to hear what Jesus had to say. He wanted Jesus to confirm what he was already comfortable with.

How often do we do the same? We pray, but we aren’t really asking what God wants—we’re asking Him to bless our plans. True listening requires an open heart, one that says, "Lord, whatever You ask, I will obey."

Another important key is to pursue a life of obedience. Obedience unlocks clarity. When we walk in obedience to what He has already revealed, we begin to hear Him more clearly. If you’ve been struggling to hear His voice, ask yourself: What was the last thing I sensed the Lord telling me to do? Did I do it?

Challenge: Ask God if there’s an area where you’ve been resisting His voice. Be honest and surrender it fully to Him today.

Lord, I surrender my own desires and plans. Help me to have an open heart, ready to receive whatever You say, even when it challenges me. Let my will align with Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
