Twice His
In the Book of Revelation, the veil that separates heaven and earth is pulled back and we're given a privileged glimpse into God's throne room. We're allowed to see several things from a heavenly perspective, including the cross.
So how does heaven see the cross? In the proceeding passage we're told that the heavenly host, the angels and those who surround God's throne, actually sing a song about the cross. They proclaim that when Jesus died on the cross, He redeemed every tribe, tongue, and people back to God.
The word "redeemed" means "to buy something back," and in the beginning mankind belonged to God because we were His creation. But after man opened the door to the devil, disobedience, and death, redemption was required. We needed to be "bought back" in order to fully belong to God.
A story was once told about a little boy who had spent weeks building a toy sailboat. He took the boat out on the lake one day, only to have the wind carry it away from him. A few days later, he saw a girl playing with his prized creation. He explained the story, but the girl wouldn't budge until the boy offered to pay her for it. Once the transaction was complete, the boy held the boat close to his heart and said, "Now you're twice mine!"
In a way, that's what Jesus did for us on the cross. He bought us back from the forces that had separated us from God. It's where our Creator became our Redeemer and where we became "twice His" as He bought us back with His very own blood. This aspect of the cross is so amazing that it even makes heaven break out in song!
when Jesus died on the cross, He redeemed every tribe, tongue, and people back to God.
Think about it...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
