One of a Kind What's your favorite meal? What's your favorite color? What's your favorite book? What's your favorite song? What's your favorite team? Why do I ask these questions? Simply this: to show that we all have personal preferences. And these "favorites" make each of us unique and different from one another. Why do we posses these preferences? Because, as the verse from today's Psalm reminds us, God has fashioned every heart individually. Stop and consider that for just a moment. God creates us individually, not generically. He makes us absolutely unique. He doesn't paint our personalities with a broad brush, but deliberately crafts us as a "one-of-a-kind" creation. In all of human history, out of the billions of people who have lived and died on Planet Earth, there's only one you...and it's you. God has deliberately made you different from everyone else. Your heart, mind, and body have been individually fashioned by Him. And here's the thing we can't miss: We need to embrace our individuality. Too often we try to be someone we're not and someone God never intended us to be. We look at the way God fashioned others, and we waste time and effort trying to imitate them. But if God wanted us to be like someone else, He would have made us like that person. Instead, God delights in us when we embrace who He made us to be and to render it in His service. And it's then that we discover His personal plan for our own lives and bear witness to His unending creativity. Creator of all things, thank you for making us unique individuals. Protect us from trying to be someone we're not, and help us to fully embrace who you've made us to be. God delights in us when we embrace who He made us to be. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
