DAY 91 OF 365

Confessing Instead of Covering If there's one natural instinct we posses as sinners, it's the instinct to cover up our sin. We naturally retreat into darkness for fear the light will expose who and what we truly are. Just look at Adam and Eve. What's the first thing they did once they became aware of their sin? They hid. Jesus also identified this human tendency in us when He said: "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." John 3:20 (NKJV) Here's an undeniable fact: We like to hide our sin. But if there's one thing this Psalm teaches us about sin, it's that confessing is always better than covering. David decided to acknowledge and confess his sin to the Lord-not hide it or sweep it under the proverbial rug. As a result, he was able to receive the blessings that come from an open and honest relationship with God. When we sin, the best thing we can do is confess it to God immediately so we can experience His correction and cleansing in our lives. It goes against our natural instinct as sinners. It's painful. It's humbling. But the act of confessing our sin is the shortest route between spiritual sickness and spiritual strength. Father, help us to reject our natural instinct to hide our sin and instead confess it to you. Thank you for responding to our confession with forgiveness and mercy instead of condemnation. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) We like to hide our sin. But confessing is always better than covering. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
