The Foundation
Worship begins with the proper position to God's revelation-and the proper perspective. What Joshua thought was a conversation with a stranger quickly transformed into something much different! The Lord revealed to Joshua who He was, and once Joshua realized who he was speaking with, he physically and spiritually put himself in a position that declared the worthiness of God, and he worshiped.
When it comes to how we worship God, what should our position be? We see the answer in Joshua's actions. When he understood he was in God's presence, his first move was to hit the ground. "And Joshua fell on his face to the earth..."
The foundation for Joshua's worship was that he actively and immediately sought to humble himself before the Lord. The same is true for our worship. The attitude of our hearts must first be grounded on the truth that He is God, and we are to be humble before Him. Whatever we find ourselves doing, our daily practice as believers should be to clothe ourselves in humility before the Lord.
And from that position, we can rightly respond to God's revelation. When we aren't humble, God isn't worshiped. But from a humble position, we can honor God above all else. Once Joshua had fallen before the Lord, it's then that he began to worship. We aren't told what his exact actions were, but we know that he was honoring the Lord with all that he had-truly giving Him reverence.
It was from a position of humility and a heart of worship that Joshua invited the Lord to speak to him. By taking those first steps, he was then ready and willing to obey the Word of the Lord. What a wonderful example of worship and the Word! Once we respond to God's revelation in worship, we can then respond to His Word with obedience.

Think about it...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
