DAY 309 OF 365

Something Special About a Song

Have you ever noticed how special a song can be? I'm not typically a singer, but I have a special song that I share with my daughter. It's something special that's just between the two of us. My song to her has a special melody that conveys how much I love her and how it fills my heart with joy to wrap my arms around her and hug her. It's something special, and part of the reason it's so special is because there's something special about a song.

It's for that reason the Bible tells us we should constantly be "singing and making melody" in our hearts to the Lord. Our lives are to have the quality of a song about them, because the Lord knows better than anyone how special the element of song is. When people sing, you can't help but stop and notice. Have you ever been in a crowded place that's full of people having different conversations, only to have someone start singing a song in the midst of it all? What happens? The song rises above the rest of the chatter, and it stands out in a way that captures everyone's attention.

That's the way our lives ought to be. Because it's as we're singing praises to our God that the people of this world are going to stop and take notice. They're going to wonder why we aren't singing the blues like they are-and how it is that we can shout so joyfully. When they finally ask, "What makes your song different from mine?" we can share how our hearts have been affected and changed by God's grace, and how He has placed a new song inside of us.

He has put a new song in my mouth; Praise to our God...(Psalms 40:3 NKJV)

Have you ever noticed how special a song can be? It's for that reason the Bible tells us we should constantly be "singing and making melody" in our hearts to the Lord. That's the way our lives ought to be. It's as we're singing praises to our God that the people of this world are going to stop and take notice.

Think about it...

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
