The Sacrifice
By it's very name, sacrifice implies an act that requires the giver to forsake something in order to offer it. It can mean not eating out while you pay off debt, or giving up that morning cup of premium coffee in order to support an orphan overseas.
Regardless of the situation, as you study the scriptures, it's clear that God set up a system in the Old Testament where His people could offer a sacrifice for a variety of reasons. For example, some were for sin while others were for giving thanks. However, these sacrifices all involved forsaking wealth (buying an animal or giving up part of their own herd) and forsaking convenience (traveling to a set place, sometimes far from home) to offer them to the Lord.
We know that the New Testament reveals Christ as the perfect sacrifice to God on our behalf. Because He was offering Himself to God for our sin, we can know that God has forgiven our sin and restored us to Himself! We no longer offer animals to God, but instead we offer ourselves to Him (see Romans 12:1-2). Our praises, which are the offerings of our lips, become a sacrifice to the Lord.
This kind of sacrifice shouldn't just happen on special occasions or on holy days. The writer of Hebrews tells us that we are to offer Him our praises continually. Whether we are speaking or singing, the fruit of our lips is to praise Him. May the words of the writer of Psalms 19 echo in us: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

Think about it...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
