Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 315 OF 365

Remember This! It's Sunday morning. You wake up, grab some coffee, and you're getting ready for church when something happens. Maybe it's an argument with a spouse or maybe you receive a stressful work email. Whatever it is, it definitely puts you in the "no fun zone." You finally arrive at church, but you can't find a parking spot. So you think to yourself, "You know what, I think I'm just going to turn the car around and go back to bed." Does this sound familiar? I think it happens to everyone. We've all had those times in worship when honestly, we're not in the mood to sing our hearts out to God. But what should we do? How do we handle these moments? We must battle these feelings as we would any other battle in our faith...with scripture. Here are some scriptures that I think are very useful to fight the "no fun zone." In fact, these are great scriptures to remember and recite as you come into the sanctuary because they give us a divine perspective that we cannot get on our own: For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. ( Matthew 18:20 NKJV) Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. (Psalm 63:3 NIV) The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. (Numbers 14:8 NIV) So remember, we can be joyful in worship even when our flesh is fighting us. As we sit and take every thought captive to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and draw near to Christ (James 4:8), He will draw near to us. And any time we encounter God, we are forever changed and can't help but worship Him! -Andrew Strickland Worship Leader, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale We've all had those times in worship when honestly, we're not in the mood to sing our hearts out to God. As we sit and take every thought captive to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and draw near to Christ (James 4:8), He will draw near to us. And any time we encounter God, we are forever changed and can't help but worship Him! Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
