DAY 226 OF 365

14-Watch Where You Walk In the first five chapters of Romans, Paul shows how God has made provision for our sin positionally through faith in His Son Jesus Christ. Then, in chapters six and seven he points out the practical challenges sin still poses to us. Now, in chapter eight, Paul shows us that just as God made positional provision for us as sinners, He has also made a practical provision for us as sinners. What's the provision? It's interesting to note that in the first seven chapters of Romans, the Holy Spirit is directly spoken of four times, and in chapters nine through sixteen, He's mentioned six times. That's a total of ten times in fifteen chapters. But here, in chapter eight, the Holy Spirit is referenced fifteen times! It doesn't take a Bible scholar to see that there's a Holy Spirit explosion here in Romans Chapter 8. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is God's provision for us to overcome the practical pull of sin in our lives. His presence in our lives is the counteractive agent that enables us to live righteously on a very practical and actual level. When He has control and reign over our hearts, sin isn't the struggle that it is otherwise. He, and He alone, is the incredible tide-turner in our war against sin. So it's only logical that Paul exhorts us to "not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." We need to watch where we walk. Are we walking in step with the old self-dominated sin-life, the old life that Jesus died to set us free from? Or are we walking in step with the Spirit, who wants to lead us in the new life Jesus died to give us? Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
