DAY 114 OF 365

As for Me Saul, Ahithophel, Abimelech, Shimai, and Goliath. What do all these people have in common? At one point or another, they all positioned themselves against David, who was a man well acquainted with enemies. As a king, enemies and even betrayal were all part of the territory. But here in Psalm Chapter 55, David shares what helped him get past his enemies and all the fallout they brought with them. It's in the three little words: As for me... There was a lot that David could have dwelt on, how this adversary had done this or how that traitor had done that. But he reached a point when he realized that dwelling on the acts of others doesn't help you in the long run. Instead, a person who has been wronged by his or her enemies has to turn a corner when it comes to what they're going to think about. They need an "as for me" moment when they decide to stop looking at what their enemies have done and determine to fix their attention on the Lord. Our focus in life cannot be on our enemies and what they've done to us. It will only leave us drained and exhausted. Yes, they've done what they've done, and we can't change or control that. All we can control is what we do-the "as for me" part of the equation. If David was able to do this, then so can we. And we will when we allow God to fill us up with His Spirit and free us from focusing on what our enemies have done to us. Lord, grant us that "as for me" moment that we need, today, next week, and throughout the coming year. Protect us from being preoccupied with the things we can't change or control. Keep us focused on You! A person who has been wronged by his or her enemies needs an "as for me" moment when they decide to stop looking at what their enemies have done and determine to fix their attention on the Lord. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
