Attached to the Father - the Devotional for Dads

DAY 5 OF 5

Attached for a Lifetime

Our Father in Heaven has designed us for attachment. He has placed heaven in our hearts and then ordered things so that we might see Him.

On top of all that, He chooses to remain close to us all: Christian, non-Christian, sinner and saved. Many experience His order, His presence and guidance and give credit to the universe or think we're living inside a simulation. In reality it's God saying "Hi, do you see me? I'm right here!"

It's easy to see God's design, order and nearness but give credit to the universe, because it doesn't demand anything from us. Giving the credit to God is the hard path, the narrow road — because He requires us to acknowledge our sin and choose to serve Him.

For fathers, parents, serving Him means turning up better at home, teaching in the quiet, in times of non-conflict. It means leaning into the relationship and making sure our children feel seen, heard and understood by us. None of this means we stop leading, or drop our high standard — instead it requires us to start leading, with love. To lead like Him means reflecting His strength — and His love. It means owning our attachment with our children, no matter what. It's the hard road and it lies before us all.

Prayer

Father, thank You for planting eternity in my heart and staying near me always. Help me seek You in every stage of life, trusting Your love to hold me steady. Please help me to model Your leadership in my life. Help me to hold the high standard, and to set the moral compass and help me to do this in close, through healthy relationships. Help me to repair what is broken. Amen.
