Attached to the Father - the Devotional for DadsSample

The Power of Closeness
It's easy to feel too frustrated or too disappointed to lean into the relationship when there's been an argument or disagreement. When rules have been broken or strong words have been said, the home can feel really unhealthy — not just for us, but for our children. In these these moments, our children can feel a great sense of shame: the feeling that they are unloved, and not good enough for us.
This parable reminds us that God pursues us like a shepherd chasing after a lost sheep. He doesn’t pull away; we’re the ones who wander. Jesus shows us that attachment matters to God—He seeks us out to restore connection. As fathers and parents, we’re called to imitate Him, owning our attachment with our child and remaining near, even when things feel broken.
How do things feel between you and your children today? How close do you feel to your children? How can you pursue closeness with God and your family today?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for never giving up on me. Help me stay attached to You and show that same persistent love to my family. Teach me to be present, help me to show up and to better reflect You. Amen.
