Grief’s Unexpected Journey: 15 Comforting Devotions After Losing Someone You LoveSample

God’s Endless Pursuit
If you’ve ever gotten a new pet, you’ve likely had to exercise patience as they were getting used to your house. They may have found hiding places galore as they settled in, not quite ready to trust these humans who brought them home. You may have chased them, wanting to cuddle or offer a treat, yet they still dashed beneath the couch or into the closet. We pet owners have a lot of love to give, and we just want our furry friends to soak it up.
In the same way, when we find ourselves going through difficult times, we can struggle with trusting God’s love. We may find our hearts crying out, Why this? Or Why now? We can’t understand why a loving Father would allow such a struggle we can indeed find comfort in His Word, which promises us that He has a plan to guide us through this broken world and that all who trust in Him will experience eternal redemption of every hurt, every loss, every disappointment we face. However, when we walk difficult journeys, it can be hard to feel the truth of that promise. We may be hidden in our despair, unaware of the ways He is reaching out to us. But the truth is, we are being endlessly pursued—in both the tough and the good times He longs to draw us near and bring us hope, peace, and joy for the journey. He is patient with our hearts and familiar with our every doubt and fear, and He knows just how to draw us out in His time. Be encouraged today—you are the object of your Savior’s affection, and He wants nothing more than for you to come to Him.
Lord, thank You for pursuing me all my life. Thank You for never giving up on me, even when I have a hard time accepting Your love. Help me to see the ways You reach out to me and to trust You more each day.
