Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 319 OF 365

For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:10).

How secure is your future?

God commands Abraham to "Get out of your country" (Genesis 12:1) and be a blessing, which is the literal translation from "And you shall be a blessing" (Genesis 12:2). He obeys the Lord and departs from familiar surroundings to the land of promise. The father of faith demonstrates his salvation by being willing to sacrifice Isaac, the promised seed (Hebrews 11:17). How could Abraham leave his homeland, travel to a place he has never seen, and then be willing to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac? It is because his eyes are upon a "city which has foundations." "Foundations" is plural and shows the permanence of the New Jerusalem. John describes the New Jerusalem as follows: "Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations" (Revelation 21:14). Like Abraham, let us walk in faith, knowing that our future is secure!

Employment Point: Live by faith, knowing that your foundations will endure.
