Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Do you have a singular focus in your faith journey?
We have the hall of faith in Hebrews 11. These men and women experienced victory over their challenges because they acted upon God's promises. The writer of Hebrews exhorts his audience to "lay aside every weight." Perhaps he is referring to Judaism, since some were tempted to abandon Jesus for their former practice. Instead of permanently looking back, they need to look forward to the One who fulfills the Old Testament and is "the author and finisher of our faith." Moreover, they must set aside "the sin which so easily ensnares us," which points to the sin of unbelief.
Employment Point: Look to Jesus by faith to complete your journey well.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
