Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 308 OF 365

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12).

How have you suffered for the Lord?

Jeremiah faithfully conveys the message imparted to him from the Lord. The message could easily peg Jeremiah as not being a patriotic Jew and betraying his country. Yet he proclaims that his people need to submit to Nebuchadnezzar and his army and not fight, lest Jerusalem be destroyed. "So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire" (Jeremiah 38:6). Jeremiah probably wonders, "How low can I go?" Hebrews chronicles some of the Old Testament saints' sufferings (Hebrews 11:36-31), then states that these heroes of Hebrews 11 "obtained a good testimony through faith" (Hebrews 11:39).

Employment Point: Endure persecution by faith and obtain a good testimony.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
