Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:14).
Are you fleeing from idols while running to God?
Five times, Paul uses the word “all” in 1 Corinthians 10:1-4. He shows the privileges that the entire nation of Israel had to see God’s vast power, as they were extricated from the captivity in Egypt and had their needs supernaturally met. Yet the majority of them turned to idols. An idol is not a neutral object. Behind the material creation lies a supernatural power. Paul exposes the hidden danger of idolatry. He writes, “that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God” (1 Corinthians 10:20). Jesus makes the following observation: “No one can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24). Furthermore, Paul equates covetousness with idolatry (Colossians 3:5). Every child of God should heed John’s prescription. He pens, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (1 John 5:21).
Employment Point: Flee from idolatry and run to the living God.
