Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 232 OF 365

But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one (1 Corinthians 2:15).

Are you a spiritually minded person?

Paul founded the church at Corinth in about AD 51. He wrote this letter to those saints in AD 56. Sadly, after five years of being saved, he writes, “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:1). The apostle differentiates between three kinds of people in 1 Corinthians 2:14—3:3. First, he writes about “the natural man [who] does not receive the things of the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:14). Paul’s term “natural” literally means soulish; this man is unsaved. We’ve also seen him address the Corinthians’ immaturity. He calls them “carnal,” which means fleshly. The apostle desires both the Corinthian saints and us to be mature and evaluate everything by God’s Word.

Employment Point: Become spiritual by evaluating all things by the Bible.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
