Joshua is concerned more about spiritual preparation in the war for the Promised Land, not military details. Make no mistake, the people of Israel would only get this victory if they trusted in the Lord to give it to them: the victory would come only from the Lord, and so would the peace ("rest") that followed. To achieve this, the people would need rigorous discipline to obey God and what He had commanded the people to do. Obedience would bring victory; once again, the theme of this section is repeated - be strong and courageous!
Think it Over: In what ways do you find it easy to obey God? Is it ever difficult to do exactly what He asks?
