Five Pillars of Relationship Equity

DAY 6 OF 7

Day 6 Devotional: Fourth Pillar of Relationship Equity (Submission)

Submission, which is often misunderstood and misrepresented, is far from one-sided. It is a dynamic and nuanced concept intertwined with humility and profound leadership qualities. Consider how Jesus, in his humility, submitted to John the Baptist for baptism, showcasing the essence of submission. Moreover, Jesus exemplified leadership through servitude by humbly washing his disciples' feet. He even taught his disciples that true greatness is being the least and serving others.

In marriage, the Bible emphasizes mutual submission between husband and wife (Ephesians 5:21). This joint submission fosters harmonious cooperation and helps navigate situations where decisions may seem challenging. In such instances, seeking divine guidance and considering each other's perspectives can lead to the best outcomes. Mutual submission should never engender feelings of inferiority; instead, it is a testament to both partners' commitment to the overall success of the relationship.

Submission can positively affect equitable relationships when practiced as consensual, respectful, and balanced. It becomes a gesture of trust and respect, acknowledging and appreciating each partner's decision-making abilities. In an equitable relationship, both partners share equal influence and responsibility, ensuring that the outcomes result from shared collaboration and mutual understanding.

When the husband and wife find it hard to submit to one another, the Bible encourages the wife to submit to the husband.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we seek guidance in understanding submission as an act of mutual respect, collaboration, and shared decision-making. Help us to let go of any power struggles and egos that may hinder our growth as a couple. Grant us the grace to support and encourage each other's dreams and desires. In your name we pray. Amen.
