Have you seen the "toddler snack" challenge? Where a parent gives their toddler a cookie and says, "Don't eat this until I get back," and they leave the room? The point is to see if they will give in to temptation and eat the cookie. There's a specific video where a mom leaves cookies with twin toddlers. Every time one of them reaches for the cookie, the other twin reminds them that their mom said not to touch the cookie! By the end of the video, both boys did everything from sniffing to even licking it, but they were successful in not eating the cookie!
That's the power of accountability — even when the temptation is right in front of you, you can get through it together. James mentions the prayers of a righteous person being effective. Righteous means that you're pursuing good things with the right intentions. When we're there for our friends, our prayers are powerful.
Having a friend you can pray with is so important. Is there someone in your life who you can go to when you are struggling with temptation?
