The Book of Romans: A 16 Day DevotionalSample

What gives you hope? The opening verses in this chapter speak of the scriptures and biblical narratives giving us hope for the future. Think of Esther who was born “For such a time as this" (Esther 4:14)” Think of David who sinned majorly, repented, and continued to be “a man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22).
Find hope in the testimony of others. Find perseverance in their story and see God’s faithfulness through challenging circumstances.
Paul is beginning to sign off his letter in this chapter. He mentions some of his other missional journeys and asks for prayer for safety and to complete the race marked for him. Paul’s journey is one of intense struggle and hardship: beaten, in chains, shipwrecked and so much more, yet he continues to follow Jesus in a powerful and courageous way. Take hope and encouragement from his story of following Jesus.
Reflection
Ask Jesus for hope today. Ask for His encouragement in the struggle or in the joyful times you may be living in. Pray this prayer Paul prayed at the end of this chapter.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13)
