THE ESTATE SALE

We took a month to sort things I wanted to store. I knew I was in a fog but realized years afterward that it served a purpose. We will discuss that on another day within this devotion. Because of the fog clouding my mind, it was easy to say, 'Get rid of it!'

Scripture is God-breathed and written to not only inspire us but to use wisdom and have guidance for life-making decisions.

And he said,“Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15

As hard as it was to part with things, I knew that what I owned did not define me. When we become a person that attitude speaks, ‘look what I own,’ we know it is time for a spiritual self-analysis.

Transition hit me hard during the estate sale. Nothing prepares you in life for watching a person walk out of your home and load their truck with your things. An emptiness of despair wanted to invade my being. As the rooms emptied, echoes permeated the air. It caught me off guard, and fear began to creep in.

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.” I Timothy 6:17-19

Oh God, my Father, my hope is not in what my husband and I shared materially but in the spirit that I knew goes with me. As I stored that up within my heart, it birthed new hope that God would provide anew for my future.
