The Warrior’s Bride: Military Family ResiliencySample

The Warrior’s Bride: Military Family Resiliency

DAY 5 OF 11

Have you ever thought of any of these?

  • My husband’s military career is making us miserable.

  • My husband chose (or got assigned to) the wrong MOS.

  • Why is my husband re-enlisting again? Doesn’t he care that I hate this life?

  • I can’t believe our new orders. We need to get out.

Some of those have gone through my mind, as well as the minds of close friends. It’s easy to blame the military or government for our unhappiness because it’s so much easier than looking in the mirror. But most of the time it’s the mirror that reveals who is really to blame for our troubles.

The truth is that since God called your man to the military, He called you to be a military spouse. Whether that was in your original plan or not, the moment you said, “I do,” you aligned yourself with your man and his calling.

Now, that doesn’t mean you have to give up your dreams. A career, children, and all the other specifics of your family life are between you, your husband, and God. But you do need to keep in mind that God expects to be first in your life, and He expects your husband to be second.

As your husband seeks to lay down his life in all God called him to do, you need to lay down your life in all God calls you to do. Sometimes this means giving up something close to your heart. Sometimes it means stepping outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes it means learning to be still and patient.

And when you trust God, striving to follow His Word and His will, you will be blessed.

Consider:

  • What is your biggest struggle in being a military spouse?

Pray:

Father, my head knows that You only want the very best for me, but sometimes it feels like You are asking me to make tremendous sacrifices. Help me to be completely obedient, even when I think my way is better.
