Matthew: Part 2Sample

Matthew: Part 2

DAY 3 OF 10

Imagine you’re sitting out in a field listening to Jesus. Off in the distance is a guy planting some seeds. Jesus sees this and uses it to teach. He says, “See that guy over there planting seeds?” Then, He tells this parable.

In this parable there, Jesus describes several different kinds of soil.

Each soil represents a different kind of person. Which one are you?

The footpath: Your heart is shut. Maybe you think you don’t need God - that you’re good on your own. Maybe you’ve seen other people who claimed to follow Jesus that looked nothing like Him. They were mean or judgemental and you decided you didn’t want anything to do with Jesus because of them.

The rocky ground: You got really excited about Jesus for a time, but never took steps to grow deeper in your faith or to make it your own.

The thorns: There are things in your life that crowd out Jesus. You get distracted by social media, school, sports, and everything else in life. Jesus isn’t your top priority. Actually, a lot of times, you forget to spend time with Him.

The fertile soil: You are healthy and growing in your relationship with Jesus.

The only difference between these soils is that the fertile soil was taken care of. The farmer took time to till and weed the soil.

Take care of your heart. Spending time in the Bible reading plan is a great start, but I challenge you to take another step today. Spend some time in prayer, listen to a worship song, go for a walk in nature, and thank God for His creation, set up a screen time limit on a social media app. Do something today to help tend to your heart be like the fertile soil.
