If you had to make a list of the 3 things that mattered most to you, what would those things be?

Family? School? Friends? Money? Sports? Video games?

In this passage, a rich man comes to Jesus to find out what it would really take to fully follow Him. 

Jesus told him to give up one of the things on his list - one of the things that mattered most to him. 

There’s nothing wrong with money. Having money isn’t a bad thing, but it held this guy back from fully following Jesus. He loved money more than he loved Jesus. Because of this, he walked away sad.

Go back to that list you made a few minutes ago. Where is Jesus on that list? Is there anything on that list that’s more important to you than Jesus?

How would you react if Jesus asked you to give that thing up?

Would you give it up and follow Jesus or would you walk away sad, like the man in the story?

If there’s something in your life that is more important to you than Jesus, figure out how to make Jesus your top priority. 

Maybe that means you spend time with God in the morning before you check social media or play video games. Maybe you have to give something up because it’s not a great influence. Maybe you pray with your teammates before the game. 

I don’t know what it is for you, but today take one step towards making Jesus your top priority.
