“Without light, everything is dull!”
Without light, life on earth is not possible
Without light, the people of Israel would have been lost, and they would have perished under Egyptian violence.
God led the people through the desert of the Middle East with a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night. In one passage we even read how God uses the cloud to obscure the view of the Egyptian army, so they can’t continue their way. At the same time, on the other side, he provides light for his people during the night. What an amazing situation. The people realize that not far away the enemy is lurking, but they are stuck where they are. They themselves stand at the sea-shore, seemingly stuck in a dead end, until finally God, through Moses, parts the sea, which enables them to flee.
The light that comes from God gives protection and hope. The prophets would also announce this centuries later.
The hope that God will provide us with happiness is conveyed through different kinds of images of light. Just as the sun and moon shine on the earth, providing light so that we can see where we are going and warmth for our bodies, God also can do the same for you and me. Isaiah writes: “The glory of the Lord has risen above you.” Can you believe that God wants to give you direction in your life? Connect with God about this through prayer.
ACTION STEP:
Whenever you see light – perhaps in the morning when the sun rises, in the evening when the moon shines, or simply when a spotlight hits you – say a prayer. This way you will stay connected to God several times a day, and you can become aware of the fact that he wants to guide you and give you direction.
